Doctor recognizes that the fact that doctors make mistakes does not make them acceptable
In an interesting September 2007 essay, Dr. Richard Karl discusses the reality of mistakes made by doctors in the operating room. He refers to the Institute of Medicine's 2000 finding that over 100,000 patients die due to medical errors each year. Dr. Karl notes various reasons, including the "culture" of the medical profession and "uncooperative behavior" by physicians who ignore valuable input form nurses to help avoid errors. In short, none of these errors are acceptable.
